Resumo

Este ensaio examina o romance A Conquista, de Coelho Neto, nos parâmetros de leitura, autoria, grupo literário, representação da sociedade do final do século XIX. Esta narrativa traz principalmente a Campanha Abolicionista e a figura dos intelectuais e escritores que tomaram parte no movimento. Conceitos como Sistema Literário e Estética da Recepção serão utilizados como aporte teórico e fundamentação da reflexão construída. Portanto, são mencionados teóricos como Roger Chartier, Marisa Lajolo, Regina Zilberman, Silviano Santiago e Edward Said.

THE LITERARY SYSTEM OF A CONQUISTA: NAMES, READING AND NUMBERS FOR A COELHO NETO’S NOVEL

This essay examines Brazilian author Coelho Neto´s A Conquista, concerning the following themes: reading, authorship, literary group and the representation of society in the end of the nineteenth
century. This narrative discusses, especially, the Abolitionist Campaign and the figures of intellectuals and writers who have been part of this movement. Concepts as literary system and reception aesthetics will be used as the theoretical basis for the present reflection. Therefore, other theorists are mentioned, such as Roger Chartier, Marisa Lajolo, Regina Zilberman, Silviano Santiago and Edward Said.
